What this calculator does
Counts pavers for a rectangular area from paver size and area, with allowance for cuts.
How to use it
- Enter area width and length.
- Enter paver width and length in centimeters.
- Set waste and read the number of pavers.
Formula
paverArea = (Paver Width/100) × (Paver Length/100) pavers = roundUp( Width × Length / paverArea × (1 + Waste Margin (%) / 100) )
Formulas are shown in metric units, exactly as the calculator computes them. Imperial entries are converted to metric first. Waste is applied as a multiplier (1 + waste/100).
Areas are in m² and volumes in m³. Centimeters are divided by 100 to give meters. RoundUp means the next whole piece or bag.
Variables
| Variable | Unit | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Width | m | 3 |
| Length | m | 5 |
| Paver Width | cm | 10 |
| Paver Length | cm | 20 |
| Waste Margin (%) | % | 10 |
Worked example
Using the default values of this calculator (Width = 3 m, Length = 5 m, Paver Width = 10 cm, Paver Length = 20 cm, Waste Margin (%) = 10 %), the calculator returns:
paverArea = (10/100) × (20/100) pavers = roundUp( 3 × 5 / paverArea × (1 + 10 / 100) )
- Pavers Needed: 825 pavers
Assumptions and limitations
- Joints are not included in paver size; add the joint to the dimensions if needed.
- Base layers (gravel, sand) are separate calculations.
Waste, rounding and buying
Pavers come on pallets; round up and keep spares, because later batches may differ in colour. Curves and edges need extra cuts.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the result include the sand and base?
- No. Use the Gravel and Sand calculators for the base and bedding layers.
- What waste for curved paths?
- More than for straight areas because of edge cuts; set the percentage yourself.
